South Texas Cement to install Siwertell mechnical loader
Siwertell has secured an order from GCCM Holdings
to supply a high-capacity ship unloader for
South Texas Cement’s terminal in Corpus Christi.
The Siwertell ST 640-M unit will have a
continuous rated cement-handling capacity of
1500 tph and will be able to unload ships of up to
60 000 DWT. It is similar to the 1500 tph unloader
currently operating for the Houston Cement Co. in
Texas.
“GCCM and South Texas Cement made the
decision that their new terminal would be best served
by a mechanical unloader,” said Patrik Henryson,
Sales Manager, Siwertell. “The factors considered by
the companies during the decision process included
unloading times, venting requirements, electrical
demand, capital and lifetime maintenance costs, ship
size, and storage capacity.”
“Siwertell’s demonstrated ability was a large factor
in the decision to choose them for this project,” said
Earl Ingram, President of GCCM Holdings and South
Texas Cement. “Machine size and unloading rate
were extremely important. This particular machine
is well within the operational range of many other
machines that Siwertell currently has in service and,
when combining all of the deciding factors that led to
choosing a mechanical unloader, it was apparent that
Siwertell was the best fit for our needs.”
According to Ingram, GCCM Holdings “especially
like the high rate of unloading combined with the
versatility to handle various ship sizes.”
The unloader is currently being built and will be
delivered fully-assembled by heavy-lift ship to the port.
Siwertell will supervise its commissioning and the unit is
expected to be in operation in June
–
August 2019.

Lubao Cement Co. to install three Loesche vertical roller mills
Following several years of cooperation with
Sinoma, Loesche has again received a contract with
the Chinese engineering company. The Chinese
Lubao Cement Co. is in the process of building a
new plant for the production of cement clinker.
The plant, located in Bei Liu in south China, will
have a capacity of 4500 tpd. Loesche has been
commissioned to provide three vertical roller mills
(VRMs) for raw material, another for coal, and a
final mill for clinker and slag.
The raw material mill will utilise four rollers and
have a capacity of 450 tph, grinding the materials to
a fineness of 12% R 80 µm. The subsequent grinding
of cement clinker will be carried out by a further
Loesche mill, which will have a capacity of 200 tph
and will grind to a fineness of 3400
–
3600 Blaine.
The final mill to be provided by Loesche will be a
large three-roll mill, with a capacity of 42 tph. This
mill will be used to grind fuel coal to a fineness of
2% R 80 µm.
Loesche’s customer and general contractor in
this project is Sinoma (Suzhou) Construction Co.,
belonging to Sinoma International Engineering Co.
and part of the China National Building Material
Group Corp. During its 50 years of development
in the Chinese cement industry, Sinoma has
implemented 400 cement production lines. 60
of these are full engineering, procurement, and
construction projects in China, alongside other Asian
and African countries.

Rohrdorf cement plant benefits from upgraded rail link
The rail link between the Rohrdorf cement plant
and Rosenheim railway stations has been upgraded,
allowing the passage of heavier wagons. Following
the renewal works, which were undertaken by
Deutsche Bahn, the maximum permissible payload per
wagon has been increased from 55.5 t to 65 t.
The railway is used to bring limestone from the
quarries in Bad Häring and Fischbach to the cement
plant. The plant receives two trains a day. Following
the upgrade, this will mean 25 000 tpy of material
can be moved to the plant via rail. It will also allow
for a reduction in the number of wagons per train,
from 20 to 10.
The upgrade work has also required a change in
wagon by train operator, DB-Schenker, as well as the
installation of new loading control and new software.
