GCCA announces new members and director

Asian and North American cement companies are the latest to join

the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA). The total

number of member companies has now reached 20.

As of September, new members include the Mexico based

Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua SAB de CV (GCC), Israel’s Nesher

Israel Cement Enterprises Ltd, Shree Cement in India, and the

Taiwan-based Taiwan Cement Corp.

The growing list of affiliates includes Cámara Nacional del

Cemento in Mexico, Federación Interamericana del Cemento in

Colombia, and the Union of Cement Producers in Russia.

“It is encouraging to see positive momentum in the growth

of the association with members throughout the world,” said

Albert Manifold, CEO of CRH plc and President of the GCCA. “As the

authoritative voice for the sector, we look forward to bringing the

industry together in November at the GCCA Symposium in London to

discuss future trends and global priorities for our industry.”

Other members of the GCCA include the following: Buzzi Unicem,

Cementos Argos, Cementos Pacasmayo, CEMEX, Çimsa Çimento,

CNBM, Dangote, Eurocement, HeidelbergCement, LafargeHolcim,

SCG Cement, Taiheiyo, Ultratech, Votorantim, and Titan Group,

which announced its membership in late September.

Further applications for membership and affiliate status have also

been received and are currently being processed.

Separately, the GCCA announced the appointment of

Dr Andrew Minson, current Executive Director of the UK Concrete

Centre and British Precast, as its Concrete and Sustainable

Construction Director. The role will commence in January 2019.

Minson will join the GCCA’s executive team from the Mineral

Products Association and will report to Chief Executive Benjamin

Sporton. He will lead the GCCA’s promotion of the sustainability

value of concrete in the future of construction. This work includes

improving understanding of the lifecycle of concrete, as well as its

role in the circular economy.

“Andrew’s broad experience and expertise will be essential to the

GCCA as he leads our work to achieve global recognition of concrete

as the sustainable building material of choice,” said Sporton.

“I am delighted to be taking on this role at the GCCA, working

in a sector which contributes so much to a safe, resilient, and

resource-efficient built environment,” said Minson. “Concrete as a

material is so versatile and has such a range of inherent performance

benefits that it can be used by the construction industry to deliver

great projects. I look forward to bringing together best practice

from around the world with the latest thinking to show how

concrete can lead to the best sustainable outcomes for society.”

The GCCA executive team will be completed shortly, with the

announcement of a new Communications and Policy Director

expected soon. The GCCA launched in January 2018 and is dedicated

to developing and strengthening the sector’s contribution to

sustainable construction.
