enforcement initiative related to combusting
alternative fuels in cement kilns. Several
conference calls and meetings were held with
MSHA throughout the year. Attendees will hear
about MSHA’s concerns and the information
PCA and CKRC have already provided to
MSHA.
Conveyor 101
Conveyors are the lifeline to any cement plant’s
productivity. This presentation from Jeff Jurasits of
ASGCO will review the Conveyor 101 programme.
Attendees will gain an understanding of conveyor
systems, conveyor belts, their components, and
how they affect a plant’s performance. Get safety
guidelines for working on or around conveyors, tips
on reducing fugitive material and dust (and solutions
to control it), and ideas on how to implement a
conveyor inspection and maintenance service
programme.
Process training
This programme offers a range of cement process
and production topics, covered over three days of
training by cement industry experts. Topics will range
from the theoretical to the practical, such as quick
evaluation of kiln systems, effective planning and
scheduling of outages, and quarry fleet optimisation.
Continuing education credits will be available for
each course on an individual basis. Four modules (of
different topics) will be offered each day and each
module will consist of a 105 min. presentation.
While the focus of the overall training is specifically
tailored to process engineers and production
managers at the factory level, any given module may
prove to have practical merits for any number of
cement plant personnel, including cement chemists,
purchasing managers, quality engineers, and
aspiring plant managers.
