Plant tour: Holcim Ste Genevieve
The tour at the Holcim Ste Genevieve plant will
consist of both drive-by and walking tour routes.
The drive-by tour will provide an opportunity
to conveniently view the entire Ste. Genevieve
production process from the quarry to the harbour.
Walking route
From the central assembly location, tour
participants will have immediate access to the
walking tour route. Plant personnel, boundary tape,
and informational signage will assist in guiding and
monitoring tour participants along walking tour
routes. Both plant personnel and a few specific
OEM representatives
–
including those from
FLSmidth, IKN, AUMUND Group, and Brennan
–
will be available to provide overviews, explanations,
and answer questions. The walking tour route will
be confined to non‑operational areas of the plant,
between the raw mill and cement mill locations.
During the walking tour, guests will be able to
view the plant’s two vertical raw mills, raw mill
silos, kiln, clinker cooler, clinker silos, four vertical
finishing mills, and cement silos. Access to view the
control room operations, quality assurance, and
control laboratories in the main administrative
building will also be provided.
Drive-by route
Also located near the central assembly area,
tour participants will be able to access smaller
transport vehicles for a drive-by tour of the quarry
and harbour areas. Each transportation vehicle will
have plant personnel, who will provide narration
along the route. This drive‑by route will provided an
opportunity to view a portion of the active quarry,
primary and secondary crusher operations, and the
limestone storage dome location. As the driving
tour continues out from the quarry, tour participants
will travel along the main production area of the
plant and to the terminal operations, which includes
a 42 acre inlet harbor on the Mississippi River. This
harbour allows 75% of the plant’s incoming and
outgoing materials and product to be received and
shipped by barge along the Mississippi River –
one of the most environmentally-friendly modes of
transportation. After viewing the harbour area, the
bus will return to the central assembly area.
Exhibition
In addition to the technical programme and plant
tour, the conference includes an exhibition of around
160 suppliers and vendors to the cement industry.
The Exhibit Hall opens on Sunday afternoon for the
unofficial start of proceedings, as well as periodically
over the first two days of the conference.
The Holcim Ste Genevieve cement plant will host this year’s plant tour.
