loading alley to its existing infrastructure. This

new loading point equipped with self-serving

ability will improve the overall customer

experience by reducing queue time in peak

periods. The project was completed ahead of

schedule.

Mitchell Plant, Lehigh Hanson

Lehigh Hanson’s new state-of-the-art plant,

which will expand the existing plant’s operations,

will allow for an increase in production

capabilities while significantly reducing energy

usage, fuel consumption and emissions per ton

of cement produced through modern equipment

and the latest in cement production technology.

For the new plant, Lehigh will install a single

KHD kiln that will replace its current three

kilns. The new plant also includes raw material

storage, grinding, clinker storage, grinding and

cement transport and loading.

FCT Combustion also supplied

Lehigh Cement’s Mitchell plant with a

Gyro-Therm burner for a 7000 tpd kiln, capable

of firing 100% natural gas. Additionally, the

company also supplied two natural gas fired

hot gas generators, calciner burners, a burner

management system, valve trains and other

accessories.

Mojave cement plant, CalPortland Cement

Company

A Material Transfer Basket designed with

4535 kg (10 000 lb) capacity, allowing for

two pallets of brick, tools, equipment and

more, was supplied to Mojave cement plant

by Bricking Solutions. The Material Basket is

a strong, lightweight aluminium-frame that will

keep contents stable, secure, and contained

and can be used for carrying tools, machines,

rubble, or up to two pallets of brick. It can be

lifted or carried with crane or forklift.

National Cement of Alabama, National Cement

Company

thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions AG supplied

a new 5000 tato clinker line including a new

DRC 1200 x 1200 clay crusher and storage

complete with a RS 19.3 belt stacker and a

PR19 single boom portal reclaimer. The new

line shows off the company’s new 51/25/440

QMR2 roller mill, a 13 000 mt, 16 m dia.

homogenising silo, and a five stage preheater

with new 600 series cyclones, along with a

three-station, 4.6/5.0 m dia X 70 m L rotary

kiln, and a Polytrack 8T-2.5-2.5-3R clinker

cooler. The project also demanded extensive

emissions abatement technology including a

state of the art DeSO

x

system for SO

x

removal.

Nelson plant, Lhoist North America

Bricking Solutions supplied a Ez Flexx50

Bricking Machine with a 4.3 m (14 ft)

4000 kg (8800 lb) work platform, designed for

a 15 –17 ft range with 220 mm brick, to the

Nelson plant.

Newberry plant, Argos USA Corporation

Further to the successful operation of Pillard

NOVAFLAM burners in Roberta and Harleyville

plants, Fives will supply a new Pillard

NOVAFLAM burner to the Newberry plant.

Moreover, to increase the effective primary

air momentum, Argos Newberry decided to

modify the existing Unitherm M.A.S. burner to

the latest M.A.S. disc technology design.The

flexible hoses of the existing M.A.S. burner will

be replaced by a set of metal discs to form the

primary air nozzles.

Oro Grande cement facility, CalPortland

MDAQMD, the air pollution control

authority for the High Desert portion

of San Bernardino County and the

Palo Verde Valley, Riverside County, US,

awarded a US$175 000 grant to help

CalPortland’s Oro Grande plant replace a 1999

TEREX Bore/Drill rig with a 2019 Caterpillar

MD2650 Drill. With the new drill, the company

expects to see a 76% reduction on average in

nitrogen oxides (NO

x

), reactive organic gases

(ROG) and particulate matter (PM) combined.

Pennsuco plant, Titan Cement

FCT Combustion has been awarded an EPC

contract to completely convert the existing

5000 tpd kiln system at Titan Cement’s

Pennsuco plant in Florida for 100% natural gas

firing.

The scope includes a new Gyro-Therm Mk3

burner with dual fuel capability and a spare

single fuel Gyro-Therm Mk3 burner with

100% natural gas firing capability. Accessories,

field instruments, burner management system

and valve train will also be delivered for the

safe and optimised operation of the system

according to NFPA 86.

Additionally, FCT Combustion will be

responsible for all civil, structural and

mechanical erection, including the new gas

pipeline and full electrical and automation

installation.

Providence, RI, Marine Terminal, McInnis Cement

McInnis Cement successfully completed

the expansion programme for its

Providence Terminal by adding 40 000 t of

storage to its existing infrastructures. The

terminal will now be able to store a total
