Flip
your
gear
Benjamin Sims, D&L Weld Inc.,
discusses the process of flipping girth
gears in a cement plant.
Introduction
In January of 2017, at a cement production plant in Virginia, the
drive gears of a 16 ft 6 in. dia. cement kiln were due to be flipped.
Plant personnel had performed their due diligence and the decision
had been made to flip both the girth gear, located on the kiln shell,
as well as its driving pinion.
